Boom in tourism occupancy rates in Catalonia over December bank holiday
Cerdanya hotels are 90% full thanks to the slopes opening
The tourism sector in Catalonia is optimistic about the December bank holidays, with some areas nearing full capacity. Spain celebrates two holidays the first week of December, providing a perfect window for a five-day holiday.
Mountain hotels are expecting good occupancy rates due to the last-minute decision to open up the ski resorts after the recent snowfall.
The Girona region is expecting the largest number of tourists in both mountain and inland areas, with hotels in the Pyrenees region of La Cerdanya already over 90% occupancy.
In the Lleida Pyrenees region, where every ski resort has confirmed their opening at the last minute, the hotel occupancy rate is over 80% this holiday.
The rural tourism establishments also have a good outlook, especially in Central Catalonia, where there are two major attractions in the next few days: the Pine Tree Fair in Espinelves and the Medieval Market in Vic. In the Berguedà region, rural hotels expect 85% occupancy, especially on Friday and Saturday.
On the other hand, the influx of tourists will be lower in the regions of Tarragona and Barcelona, which admit that it is low season because tourists prefer snow destinations or international destinations for long weekends.
