Barcelona's public transport is most expensive of Spain
Single ticket price is highest across country, consumers' association denounces
Barcelona is the city with the most expensive single transport ticket, consumer association Facua denounced in a report.
The price has increased up to €2.55 for one trip. With the ten-ticket T-Casual, the price of a journey is reduced to €1.21.
In its analysis of 57 Spanish cities, Madrid comes in second for the highest price of a ticket while Merida and Palma de Mallorca are among the cheapest cities.
ATM –Barcelona's transport authority- announced the extension of its transport system on December 19.
The counties of Berguedà, Ripollès and Solsonès will be integrated into a new 7th zone of Barcelona's transport network.
Barcelona's transport system will then be composed of zones 1 to 7, with gradual prices determined by the unified pricing system.
The ATM board of directors will approve the prices and conditions of the new 7th zone tickets in April 2025.
The public transport users will then convert to the T-Mobilitat system, a single physical or digital card through which they can charge different tickets.
With an integrated pricing system in the one card, commuters won't have to buy different tickets for different means of transport anymore.
Since 2015, the counties of Berguedà and Ripollès have been relying on a special system with separate transport packages.
The packages include a ten-trip card from the counties to Barcelona and a T-casual card (a ten-trip card) integrated to allow for travel within zone one.
Until the prices for the 7th zone take effect, this packages system will remain.
