Barcelona metro will run through the night on New Year's Eve, with the service running 43 hours non-stop from 5am on December 31 to midnight on January 1.
Operator TMB has put in place the plan to make travel easier and faster throughout the metropolitan area.
A train will run every 4 minutes on Line 1 and 3, every 6 minutes on Line 5 and 6 on Tuesday 31st during the evening up until midnight. After 2 am on New Year's Day, trains will run every 9.30 to 11 minutes.
From 9pm on Tuesday until 2am on Wednesday, trains will run every four minutes on Lines 1 and 3, every six minutes on Line 5, every six and a half minutes on Line 4, and every seven minutes on Line 2.
Between 2am and 5am on New Year's Day, trains will run with a frequency of 9.5 minutes on Lines 1 and 5, 10 minutes on Line 4, and 11 minutes on Lines 2 and 3.
The main New Year's Eve celebrations in Barcelona will consist of a show of drones, music and fireworks organized by Barcelona City Council on Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina.
With no capacity restriction, the show is expected to be the city's busiest event.
TMB recommends reaching the event via various metro stations: primarily Espanya (L1 and L3), as well as Hostafrancs (L1), Tarragona (L3), Rocafort (L1) and Poble Sec (L3).
Those stations will have additional security and personnel to regulate passenger flow before and after the event.
On the other hand, bus lines near the event area might be redirected depending on the traffic restrictions around Plaça d'Espanya.
