Barcelona, most expensive city in Spain to rent a room
Idealista and Pisos.com say average price in Catalan capital is between €595-€623
The price of renting a room in Barcelona ranges between €595 and €623 on average, on the real estate platforms Idealista and Pisos.com, respectively.
Both platforms point out in studies published this Thursday that the Catalan capital is the city with the most expensive shared rentals in Spain.
The portals differ on which is the second most expensive city: Idealista say it is Madrid, at €550, while Pisos.com point to the Basque city of San Sebastian, at €547. Palma de Mallorca is also among the four most expensive cities.
Pisos.com also places Girona the fifth most expensive, with rooms available at an average of €474.80 per month.
Across Spain, the supply of shared flats has increased by 20% year-on-year during the third quarter of the year, while the price has increased by 5% up to €400 per month, according to Idealista.
In Barcelona, meanwhile, the price of renting a room in a shared flat has grown by 11% in this period.
In Lleida, the increase was 5%, higher than the increases seen in Girona (+1%), while prices are stable in Tarragona.
In Barcelona, the supply is up also by 11% over the past year, but those interested in shared flats have fallen by 1%.
In Girona, the report says there are 13% fewer rooms on offer than a year ago, but interest has skyrocketed 110%.
Pisos.com points out that this type of rental suffers from "the same problem as the housing market in general, that demand exceeds supply, which makes rents more expensive."
