Expectant and new parents are invited by Barcelona City Council to come along to two free information sessions in English on pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Attendees will be able to "access useful information, learn about resources for you and your family and connect with other people going through the same experience."

The first session will be on pregnancy and birth on March 20, while the second will be on parenting and a new work-life balance on April 24.

Organizers Barcelona International Welcome say each session will include a presentation on available resources and practical tips for each stage.

This first session will present the public services available throughout the process of having a baby: the pre-conception appointment, monitoring the pregnancy, the different delivery options at hospitals and other health centers, home care and support for breastfeeding.

Various services and support groups will also be presented: preparation for childbirth, conscious and active parenting, and postpartum.

The second session will also include mobility exercises to improve posture and relieve tensions linked to pregnancy and postpartum. At the end of each session, there will be time to connect with other parents or carers with the goal of gradually building a support network.

All these public services are offered by the Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Units (ASSIR Barcelona/Institut Català de la Salut) linked to public primary care centers. The teams are made up of midwives, OB/GYNs, nursing staff and psychologists, among other professionals.

The sessions run from 6-8pm at the Library of Catalan Healthcare Institute (ICS) They are free of charge, but prior registration is required
