Barcelona Airport nears pre-pandemic levels with 4.4m passengers in May
Number of travelers reaches 95.6% of 2019 monthly total, up 17.2% on last year
The number of passengers using Barcelona Airport creeps ever closer to pre-pandemic figures.
The latest data released by airport management company AENA shows that the airport saw 4,477,108 travelers during the month of May, up 17.2% on last year, and 4.4% less than in May 2019.
Of the total, 3.2 million passengers traveled on international flights, 19% more than a year ago, with the remainder travelling to destinations in Spain.
There were 28,715 take-offs and landings this May, compared to 31,164 in May 2019.
Some 13,498 tons of goods were transported via the airport, a 1.5% year-on-year increase.
To date this year, from January until May, 18.6 million passengers have used the airport, 35.9% more than in 2022. It represents a recovery of 94.6% of passenger numbers from the same period in 2019.
Reus Airport registered 138,170 passengers in May, 13.8% more than the same month last year.
Girona-Costa Brava Airport recorded 122,918 passengers last month, almost 25% lower than May 2022.
