Barcelona has set a target for 85% of all journeys to be made using sustainable transport by 2030, building on the current rate of just over 80%.

The Barcelona Urban Mobility Plan 2025-2030 aims to reduce the proportion of journeys made in private vehicles from 20% to 15% over the next five years.

The city is seeking to increase journeys on public transport from 34% to 37% and trips by bicycle and personal mobility vehicles (such as e-scooters) from 3.8% to 5.7%.

The plan, which still has to be officially approved by the local council, proposes 32 specific measures, including, for example, traffic calming on 20 kilometers of the daily mobility network and reviewing the bus network to attract more users.

Another goal is to increase bicycle use, with plans to build 55 kilometers of new on-road bike lanes, and expand the number of electric bikes available in the city's Bicing bike-sharing system.

The council has ruled out the need to implement a congestion charge in Barcelona, opting not to follow in the footsteps of cities like London and Milan.
