Artistic performances and community events to mark Second Republic anniversary in Barcelona
'Primavera Republicana' historical memory event will last from April 13-18, while government set to commemorate date throughout Catalonia
To mark the 90th anniversary of the Second Republic, Barcelona will organize artistic performances and community events across all districts of the city.
The city will see music, dance, and choreography spectacles on April 14 to commemorate nine decades since the proclamation of the republic.
A musical score by Bárbara Granados will be performed by music schools from each respective district and accompanied by local dance groups.
The day’s events will be one of the highlights of the ‘Primavera Republicana’ historical memory celebration, taking place from April 13-18 in the Catalan capital with a decentralized schedule of activities.
This year's slogan is 'The Public Revolution' and the open outdoor areas surrounding Born cultural centre will be the main stage for the activities.
In addition, three new memory stands and 10 information stalls will be placed throughout the districts.
The ongoing health crisis has forced organizers to adapt commemorations to smaller formats. In addition, it is necessary to reserve tickets in advance in order to comply with the capacity established by the authorities.
Ticket reservations can be made through the Primavera Republicana website, which also contains full details on all the activities.
The sites chosen for the acts in each district are:
Ciutat Vella - Anti-tuberculosis Dispensary
Eixample - Plaça del Cinc d'Oros
Sants-Montjuïc - Olympic Stadium
Les Corts - Les Corts Prison
Sarrià-Sant Gervasi - Blanquerna school
Gràcia - Plaça de les Dones del 36
Hota-Guinardó - Republican Pavillion
Nou Barris - Plaça de la República
Sant Andreu - Casa Bloc
Sant Martí - Foment Martinenc
Catalan government commemorates anniversary
In addition to the events organized by the Barcelona council, the government will also be commemorating the 90th anniversary of Spain's Second Republic with events throughout Catalonia.
These will be kicked off on Tuesday with 'Three days in April. 90 years since the proclamation of the Republic', a visual exhibition at the Catalan capital's Palau Robert marking the circumstances that led to the 3-day long Catalan Republic.
