Catalan television, radio, and digital media was dominated by one huge annual event over the weekend, the public broadcaster 3Cat's annual telethon raising money for charity.

The final count at the end of the day for La Marató saw €6,434,613 raised for research on respiratory illnesses.

The 33rd edition of the telethon on Sunday offered more than 17 hours of live programming on radio, television and digital channels and around 3,600 solidarity activities throughout the territory.

This year's edition raised awareness about ailments that are increasingly affecting the population due to environmental factors, such as pollution, and social factors, such as the increase in life expectancy.

La Marató began at 6 am on Sunday and ended at almost 2 am in the early hours of Monday morning.

However, donations can still be made until March 31, 2025.

Research teams working in the field of these pathologies will be able to apply for the funds raised in the first quarter of 2025.

To date, La Marató has raised more than €253 million, providing funding for 1,048 different research projects, developed by 1,762 research teams, which have involved 10,900 scientists.
