8-year-old dies in campsite bungalow fire in southern Catalonia

An 8-year-old girl passed away in a fire that broke out in a campsite bungalow in Montblanc, in southern Catalonia, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The firefighters that were called to the Montblanc Park campsite discovered the child's remains after the flames were extinguished. 

The Bombers fire brigade was alerted to the fire at 4:55 am.

When they arrived, the fire had already completely engulfed one of the bungalows. Campers were evacuating the site and realized that the 8-year-old girl was not accounted for. 

The firefighters searched for her but only discovered she had perished when the fire was put out at 6:16 am and they were able to enter what remained of the bungalow. 

Emergency responders provided psychological support to both the family of the deceased child and the firefighters. 

Mossos d'Esquadra police have opened an investigation into the causes of the fire that also partially destroyed another bungalow and a car.
