2025-2026 academic year is expected to start on September 8
Labor unions want the first day to be delayed, while government does not confirm any date

The 2025-2025 academic year is said to start on September 8, as first reported by Cadena SER radio station and later confirmed by labor union sources to the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
This means that on September 8, kindergarten, primary, and secondary school students will start their lessons. Infantil students are those under 5 years old, primary students are those from 6 to 12 years old, and secondary students are those from 13 to 16 years old.
However, labor unions reported the first day of courses, and the education ministry did not confirm or deny this information.
The ministry wants to report the first day of the 2025-2026 academic course to those parties involved before announcing it to the general public.
Labor unions are calling for the government to postpone the starting date to September 12, after the Catalan National Day. This would move the starting day from Monday to Friday.
