Every year on International Women's Day thousands of people go on strike and take to the streets of Barcelona and other major cities and towns across Catalonia, with this March 8 promising to be no different.

Here is a guide to the main events and demonstrations against the "cisheterosexual, patriarchal, racist, and capitalist system" that will be taking place this year:

Barcelona

Catalan government women's day event in which feminism and equality minister Tània Verge, Roma activist Tatiana Font Miguel, theater performer Glòria Ribera Gibal and Iranian activist Nilufar Alafar Ziaee will be interviewed

Where: Plaça Sant Jaume square

When: March 6 at 6:30 pm

 

Lesbian and trans women's protest in favor of sex workers' rights

Where: Maria Cristina metro stop

When: March 7 at 7 pm

 

"Capitalism is violence against women" student union protest

Where: From Plaça Universitat square to the Catalan government and Barcelona council headquarters at Plaça Sant Jaume

When: March 8 at 12 pm

 

"Feminist strike against the cisheterosexual, patriarchal, racist, and classist system" 8M Assembly demonstration

Where: Plaça Universitat square. The protest will then make its way down Gran Via, turn on Passeig Sant Joan avenue, and end in front of the gates to Ciutadella park.

When: March 8 at 6:30 pm
