1 million journeys made during first 10 months of AMBici bike-sharing scheme
Service has 230 stations with 2,600 bicycles located in Barcelona metropolitan area
Over one million journeys have been made using the Barcelona metropolitan area's bike-sharing scheme AMBici during the first ten months since its launch.
More than 20,000 users have signed up to the service, which has 2,600 bicycles (including electric bikes) and 230 stations located in 13 towns across the counties of Baix Llobregat and Barcelonès.
The scheme's arrival in Sant Adrià de Besòs is imminent, and by the end of the year it is expected in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Catalonia's second most-populous city, adjacent to Barcelona.
The service is already available in cities and towns such as Badalona, Viladecans, Cornellà, Castelldefels, Sant Joan Despí and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, the last city to join the network.
In the future, the scheme could be extended even more, to towns such as Cerdanyola, Sant Cugat or Montcada.
The municipalities where the service is most used, according to data from September, are Badalona (189,315), Viladecans (137,434) and Cornellà (116,373). The most popular times for usage are between 7am and 8am, at 2pm, and between 5pm and 9pm.
For the first year, the subscription fee was set at €25 and included 30 minutes of free riding time. Starting in January, however, the price is set to rise to €40, with the first 30 minutes costing €0.15 and each subsequent half hour charged at €0.50, up to a maximum of two hours.
Barcelona city has its own bike-sharing network, Bicing, with several transfer stations where users of the two systems can swap their AMBici bike for a Bicing or vice versa.
