Suspension of MPs 'cannot be questioned,' says Ciutadans leader
Parliament speaker asks prosecutor to drop rebellion charges for leaders involved in pro-independence case
The suspension of six MPs, including former president Carles Puigdemont, ruled by the Spanish Supreme Court continues disputed in Catalonia.
The leader of Ciutadans party, Inés Arrimadas, insists the judicial decision has to be complied –even though the suspension was ordered because the MPs have been prosecuted for rebellion and Germany's judiciary rejected these charges for Puigdemont.
"It is evident that judicial sentences have to be complied," said Arrimadas in a political event in coastal Canet de Mar. "The resolution cannot be questioned because the pro-independence parties do not like it," she added.
"What will [Spanish president] Pedro Sánchez do if the Parliament and pro-independence parties decide to not comply the judicial resolution," she asked.
She also said that the decision cannot be voted in the Catalan Parliament, although the chamber regulation states that any suspension of MPs must be voted in a plenary session.
Yet the Catalan parliament president emphasized in an interview with the Catalan News Agency (ACN) that he would do his utmost to "defend the MPs' political rights."
