The Supreme Court confirmed on Monday that Catalan president Quim Torra is guilty of disobedience and thereby should be removed from office. Spain’s top court upheld Torra’s 18-month ban from public office for keeping signs in solidarity with the jailed pro-independence leaders on public buildings during an electoral period last year. Catalonia now may face weeks of political uncertainty as pro-independence parties consider how to respond to Torra’s ousting, while opposition groups call for a snap election. Grassroots groups like Òmnium Cultural, the Catalan National Assembly, and the Committees in Defense of the Republic (CDR) have organised a protest for Monday afternoon.
