Spanish army sends logistical support to police deployed in Catalonia
Defense ministry prepares two convoys fitted with kitchens, showers and bunks to accommodate Spanish police
Spain’s defense ministry prepares the military installations of Sant Boi de Llobregat, a city located near Barcelona, to accommodate, if necessary, Spanish police sent to Catalonia. This week, two convoys (a total of twenty trucks) were sent from Logistical support of the Army located in Zaragoza, located some 300 km away from Barcelona. They are fitted with bunks, kitchens, showers and lockers.
The city's mayor, Lluïsa Moret, expressed her “concern” for the possible arrival of Spanish police. According to defense ministry sources, the objective is to prepare accommodations for the Spanish police, if necessary, as a result of the problems that they have had in some hotels around Catalonia after the violent repression of October 1.
The Spanish home affairs minister, José Ignacio Zoido, stated that the police reinforcements sent to Catalonia for the October 1 referendum will be maintained. He also said that Spain’s police will not leave the hotels because they still have valid contracts.
