The Spanish ambassador in Slovenia has been summoned by the Balkan country's foreign ministry over the government in Madrid linking the Slovenian path to independence with violence, according to the local newspaper, 'Delo'.

Diplomatic sources in Slovenia have confirmed the meeting to the Catalan News Agency, but did not clarify whether it was called by the Slovenian authorities or by the ambassador himself.

The same sources said the meeting, on Wednesday, aims to clarify that Slovenia's independence "was not a violent act," but the country had to defend itself from attacks by the Yugoslavian army.
