Safety and cleanliness concerns grow among Barcelona residents
One out of four locals are worried about security, more than six months ago
Safety remains the number one concern for residents in Barcelona, while the city’s cleanliness is second, according to the biannual survey of city residents (Baròmetre de Barcelona) published on Tuesday.
Some 24.8% of respondents consider the city has a security problem, up by 2.8 percentage points from the last survey released in July. Cleanliness, as in the last two surveys released, became the second most worrying trouble in Barcelona in 15.8% of residents’ answers, 4.3 percentage points more than in the previous edition of the study.
While policy management was Barcelona's third most worrying issue in July, the difficulties with housing access have increased to 7.6% (up 0.3) and policy management down to 6.6% (1.1 percentage points less).
According to the survey, 50.4% of Barcelona residents consider the city's policy management very bad, while 35% believe it is very good.
In the last year, 66.4% of respondents believe the city has worsened, back in July, it was 60.1%, as opposed to the 20.5% who believe it has improved and 10.4% who consider it similar to what it was 365 days ago.
The survey was done after interviewing 800 people in early December.
Looking at the future, Barcelona residents tend to be more optimistic, as 53.6% believe the situation will improve. However, for 33.5%, it will worsen, and only 3.3% of the respondents consider it will remain the same.
