Reding: Justice should not do politicians’ job
Former EC vice president says political crisis reached a point of “absolute madness” after “left rotting for so many years”
The former vice president of the European Commission, Viviane Reding, said that the political situation in Catalonia has reached a point of “absolute madness” after “it has been left rotting for so many years.” In an interview with RTBF, the public broadcaster of Francophone Belgium, Reding said that the current situation makes her feel “terribly sad.”
“Justice has to do the role of justice; it should not be used or pressured to do the job that politicians have not been able to do,” she said, and added that “I am severe with everyone, because there have been mistakes on both sides, but justice is not a political referee, and now it seems like justice has to solve a problem created by politicians.”
Currently, Reding serves as an MEP for Luxembourg. She is a member of the European People’s Party, the largest group in the European Parliament, as well as the party including Spain’s ruling People’s Party.
