Dozens protest against Trump presidency in Barcelona
Democrats Abroad gather at Plaça Sant Jaume to "resist fascism"

Dozens gathered on Barcelona’s central Plaça Sant Jaume square on Monday evening to protest the second term of President Donald J. Trump and to "resist fascism," as organizers said in a press release.
The demonstration, organized by Democrats Abroad, calls for denouncing the "illegal policies" of the Trump administration and seeks to "defend the U.S. Constitution."

"What's happening in the US is now clearly affecting all the world," a protesters named Steven told Catalan News. "Europe is now isolated. Ukraine is on its own. Trump is about to try to strike some deal between him and Putin, leaving Europe stranded."
"We had the lessons from World War II, of what happened in Nazi Germany and Italy, but now we see the government being passed over into the hands of the richest man on the planet to who-knows-what ends, ignoring all the laws that we have on our books, and it's really scary," he said.

Another protester, Annie, said: "No matter where we are, we are Americans and we have responsibility as Americans to vote and to pay taxes. We are representatives and ambassadors of our country, wherever we live in the world, and people associate us with what's going on back in our home country."
"I want to make it very clear I am not here to defend anything that Donald Trump is doing," she told Catalan News
Democrats Abroad is the official arm of the Democratic Party of Americans who live outside the United States and organizes events and helps US citizens vote in the country's elections from Catalonia.
Monday’s protest took place at the same time as other demonstrations around the world.
