New €100 school supply vouchers for primary school students
Those enrolled in public or semi-private centers will be able to spend them in specific stores
Authorities will be handing out €100 vouchers for primary school students to purchase school supplies this summer ahead of the 2023-2024 academic year, as was reported by Rac 1 radio and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
The €100 vouchers will be sent to the households of public and semi-private 'concertat' school students by mail this summer and will be able to be spent in certain stores until November 30.
The scheme is set to cost the government some €50m and will benefit around half a million students.
"This is key to guaranteeing equal opportunities," government spokesperson Patrícia Plaja said in the press conference following Tuesday's cabinet meeting.
The measure was first announced by Catalan president Pere Aragonès last September with the aim of countering the cost of living crisis, but the specifics of the scheme were only made public on Tuesday.
The 2023-23 academic year in Catalonia will start on September 6 for the preschool, primary, and secondary school levels.
