JxCat party vice-president resigns after intimidating journalist
Internal report finds Francesc de Dalmases behaved improperly but will continue as MP
Francesc de Dalmases has resigned as party vice president of Junts per Catalunya after an internal report has found he "intimidated" a journalist from TV3's political program FAQs.
Compiled by lawyer Magda Oranich, the report concludes that Dalmases "intimidated" the subdirector of the show because of the questions Laura Borràs, president of the party, was asked.
According to a press release from Junts, Dalmases also resigns from his post with the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA), but he will stay on as an MP.
Dalmases did not participate in Tuesday's extraordinary meeting of the party's executive, which accepted his resignation "unanimously."
Oranich's report concludes that the journalist "felt intimidated" despite Dalmases's claims that "he did not intimidate anyone."
The report states that Dalmases "lost his temper" and had an "incorrect" attitude. "Losing your temper in such an exaggerated way and in public is a situation to be avoided," the lawyer said.
National Council members collect signatures
Members of the National Council of Junts per Catalunya are collecting signatures to force Dalmases to leave his post as an MP.
The collection of signatures began shortly before it was announced that he was resigning as party vice-president.
The support of 20% of the members of the National Council is needed for the issue to be discussed at the meeting scheduled for November 19.
The party's executive currently considers the case closed after Dalmases's decision to resign as vice-president.
