Catalonia’s delegation in the US will have a new leader after the head of office, Victòria Alsina, has resigned due to personal reasons.

Within the next three months, the government is expected to hold a new public tender in order to name her successor.

Yet the cabinet named on Tuesday Isidre Sala, a foreign ministry official, as interim delegate until the outcome of the tender.

Sala was, until now, the director general of global affairs department within the ministry, and he had previously been in charge of the multilateral and European affairs section.

Alsina was named delegate in the US in October 2018, but he is quitting after having received an offer in the academic field, the ACN has learned.

She was the first head of the American office after it reopened, following the direct rule from Madrid, which meant the forced closure of most Catalan delegations across the world.
