Health system professionals awarded golden Medal of Honor for Covid-19 efforts
Catalan parliament bureau unanimously recognizes their "extraordinary work"
The remarkable efforts of Catalonia's health system workers during the Covid-19 crisis will be recognized by Parliament its golden Medal of Honor.
The Catalan parliament bureau, which is presided over by speaker Roger Torrent, unanimously decided to recognize "the extraordinary work carried out by the people who work in the Catalan health system due to the coronavirus pandemic," also adding that this proves that "universal and high-quality public care is an essential tool."
The Medal of Honor was created by the chamber's bureau in 2000 to award individuals and institutions that deserve special recognition. The medal reproduces the design for the parliament logo created by Antoni Comella, adapted by Joaquim Capdevila.
Among previous recipients of the award are Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu (2000), cellist Jordi Savall (2003), the Òmnium Cultural and Càritas Catalunya organizations (2012), tenor Josep Carreras (2014), and medical researcher Manel Esteller (2016).
