American citizens living in Catalonia and nearby have told of their "devastation" following the US election results, won by the Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Daniel, Ernie, and Ty, living in Barcelona, Girona, and Valencia respectively, gave their reaction to the news to Catalan News, and all three were disappointed with the outcome.

"I am horrified, I am devastated, I am angry," Daniel summed up, while Ty admitted he "thought today was going to be a day of celebration," expecting a different outcome.

"I feel like fascism has sunk its teeth into the soul of my country right now and I'm really nervous about what's going to happen next," Daniel said.

He explained that his wife is currently five months pregnant, and should they move back to their home country, their daughter "would grow up without reproductive rights."

"It's been a joy and a privilege to get to move here," Daniel explained, adding "I never thought that I'd be so afraid to move back home now."

Ernie feels that the result is "a pretty large step back for America in terms of rights for everybody," but he explained that he's happy to be abroad "where things are pretty good here."

"I feel like this election has really showed the true colors of United States politics," Ty said. "I just can't help myself but think about this American greedy mindset for money and caring about oneself instead of society as a whole," he added.
