Council for the Republic members vote in favor of blocking Sánchez's reelection as PM
Almost 75% agree that Catalan pro-independence parties should not support investiture, with under 5% participation
Members of the pro-independence group the Council of the Republic have voted in favor of pushing Catalan pro-independence parties to "block the investiture" of Pedro Sánchez as Spanish prime minister.
With only 4.45% of members voting, almost 75% opted in favor of the motion.
The organization is led by former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, who is part of the Junts negotiating team in talks with the Spanish Socialists over Sánchez's reelection.
Junts negotiators do not believe that the Council of the Republic vote "binds" them in any way and talks between the parties are set to continue.
In the consultation, which began last Tuesday and ended on Monday, 4,021 people took part. Of those that voted, 74.9% were in favor of blocking the investiture, 24.9% were against and 0.2% spoiled their vote.
