Artificial snow at private ski resorts in the Catalan Pyrenees will no longer be funded by the government, according to a report from newspaper Ara and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN).

An annual grant of €1.2 million - in place since 2020 and designed to compensate for losses suffered during pandemic closures - will not be renewed.

Instead, the funds will be redirected towards increasing social housing in the Pyrenees, specifically to fund an additional 91 homes in Camprodon, La Pobla de Segur and Sort.

On top of financing artificial snow cannons, ski resorts previously used the funds for improving or renovating facilities, incorporating technological innovations and reducing their environmental impact.
