Catalonia opens new government delegation in South Korea
President Aragonès 'great leap forward' in foreign policy with Asian office inauguration
Catalan President Pere Aragonès has opened the new government delegation office in South Korea, located in the country's capital, Seoul.
In an event at the new facility, Aragonès pointed out that this is not "just another delegation" but rather "a great leap forward in Catalonia's foreign relations and international policy."
South Korea is "a strategic country" for Catalonia because, beyond economic relations, it also opens "a new stage" for the government in all of Asia, according to Aragonès.
Bilateral agreement with Gyeonggi-do region
Earlier on Monday, Aragonès met with the governor of the South Korean region Gyeonggi-do, Kim Dong-yeon, as part of his institutional visit to the country.
During the meeting in Suwon, the capital of the territory, both leaders agreed to "strengthen relations" between administrations.
Part of this will be to renew the bilateral agreement between the executives that has been in place since 1999. It's expected that the document will be signed again at the end of 2024.
Aragonès highlighted the "excellent news" of renewing the bilateral agreement because for Catalonia "it is essential to have partners and allies with the potential" that Gyeonggi-do has.
