Catalonia and European Commission announce conference to highlight 'emblematic' joint projects
Barcelona symposium on June 13 will showcase initiatives such as MareNostrum supercomputer and Alba synchrotron
The Catalan government and the European Commission Representation in Barcelona have announced that they will jointly organize a conference to highlight Catalonia's "most emblematic" European projects, such as the MareNostrum supercomputer and the Alba synchrotron.
The conference will take place on June 13 at Sant Pau, the world's largest art nouveau complex, after the European Parliament elections of June 6-9.
More than 200 people are expected to attend, including representatives from the various political institutions and those responsible for major projects in Catalonia financed by the European Union.
"The aim is to show Brussels Catalonia's potential, and influence the new political cycle," Catalonia's foreign minister, Meritxell Serret, said after meeting the director of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona, Manuel Szapiro, on Tuesday.
"This will be an important day for the country," Serret added, "made possible thanks to the excellent collaboration between the government and the European Commission Representation in Barcelona."
The director of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona, Manuel Szapiro, said: "We want this conference to serve as a sample of the European projects that are being carried out in Catalonia, which have an impact on the territory, and which can serve as inspiration for the rest of Spain and Europe, as well as the Mediterranean world."
