Catalan pro-independence party to back no-confidence vote
PDeCAT decides to support Socialist proposal to oust prime minister so as to “put an end to the Rajoy era”
The Catalan pro-independence PDeCAT party members in the Spanish parliament will vote in favor of the no-confidence motion against prime minister Mariano Rajoy put forward by the main opposition party, the PSOE Socialists.
On Thursday, a day before the vote aimed at ousting Rajoy takes place, PDeCAT spokesman Carles Campuzano told the chamber in Madrid: “We are going to vote in favor of the motion so as to put an end to the Rajoy era.”
Earlier in the debate, the PDeCAT spokesman warned PSOE leader Pedro Sánchez that if his party finally decided to back the motion, it would not be with any enthusiasm. Campuzano warned Sánchez that “there is a lot of pain in Catalonia. There is a lot of indignation.”
So far, Sánchez’s party has backed the PP government’s draconian measures against Catalonia, such as the dismissal of its executive and the imposition of direct rule.
