Amnesty law to continue procedure after lawmakers reject right-wing total amendments
Catalan parties warn of danger of wanting to outlaw political groups
The amnesty law will continue its parliamentary procedure after lawmakers in the Spanish Congress rejected total amendment proposals from Spanish right-wing parties.
On Wednesday, a majority rejected the two proposals by the People's Party and Vox, with the 178 votes of the Socialists, Sumar, Catalan pro-independence parties Esquerra Republicana and Junts per Catalunya, as well as EH Bildu, PNB, Podemos, and BNG.
People's Party spokesperson Cuca Gamarra defended her proposal to "dissolve or suspend" political parties at "a judge's request" for "attempting against the constitutional order."
Esquerra Republicana highlighted that it is "dangerous" to want to outlaw political parties, while fellow pro-independence Junts accused them of wanting to "modify" the Penal Code through an amendment.
