Amnesty law Congress vote set for January 30
Pro-independence parties want amendments to include actions by activist group Tsunami Democràtic
The draft law on an amnesty for Catalan pro-independence figures will be debated and put to a vote in the Spanish Congress on Tuesday, January 30.
The bill took one step towards becoming law on Thursday, incorporating eight amendments that had been agreed by the Socialists, left-wing Sumar, pro-independence Esquerra Republicana (ERC), the Basque Country's Bildu and Galicia's BNG.
Pro-independence Junts also voted in favor of the amendments, although they did not put their name to them when they were submitted on Tuesday.
Pedro Sánchez's Socialists prevented the rest of the amendments proposed from being added, including separate amendments from ERC and Junts to ensure that pro-independence activist groups Committees for the Defense of the Republic (CDR) and Tsunami Democràtic are included in the final amnesty law.
These amendments remain in play and will be debated in a committee on Tuesday. If there is no agreement in the committee, they will be debated in the Congressional session on January 30.
