Absolute majority in Senate for right-wing People's Party
Conservatives take 119 seats in clear victory over the Socialists with 73
The conservative People's Party (PP) won an absolute majority in the Senate after Sunday's vote, taking place alongside the general election which also saw the right-wing party win more seats than any other.
Of the 208 seats that were up for grabs, the conservatives won 119.
The result in the Spanish upper house will give PP more strength in an uncertain political landscape scenario in which neither the right- or left-wing blocs won a majority in the congress to form a government.
The PP greatly improved the results from four years ago when they won 83 seats, surpassing the Socialist party which lost 20 seats, falling from 93 seats to 73.
Behind the two main groups, the coalition of Catalan pro-independence group and and Basque party EH Bildu, Izquierdas por la Independencia, won 7 senators, followed by another Basque party PNV with 4 and Junts with 1.
Far-right Vox won no senators after the vote, losing both senators the party previously had.
