53% of Catalans are against independence and 40% are in favour, according to the latest poll published on Thursday by CEO, the Catalan-government-owned survey agency.

It is the highest percentage against independence since the agency first presented this question in 2015.

It is also the largest difference in numbers registered, as there had never been more than 11 percentual points between the number of people in favor and against.

Since 2019 there have been more people against Catalan independence than in favor, whereas the four years previous to that the main answer on a referendum of independence would have been in favor.

The number of people who would vote "yes" on an independence referendum reached its peak in October 2017 with 49%, but in the last five years it has not surpassed 45%.

Junts is the party with most sympathizers that would vote in favor of independence with 91%, followed by 80% of CUP's supporters and 75% of Esquerra Republicana's.

Only 56% of those who voted for far-right pro-independence Aliança Catalana in the last Catalan election are in favor of Catalan independence, which contrasts with her clear positions in favor of independence.

The poll surveyed 2,000 people between June 10 and July 8.
