#NoTincPor march in Barcelona
Hundreds of thousands demonstrate in the Catalan capital against terror
Barcelona defies terror today with a huge demonstration to condemn the attacks that killed 15 people last Thursday. Hundreds of thousands of people are marching under the motto 'No Tinc Por' ('I'm not Afraid'). The slogan became a symbol of Catalonia's determination to stand strong and united in the wake of the attacks. Thousands chanted the phrase for the first time following a minute’s silence in remembrance of the victims the day after the horrendous events.
The demonstration has started at 6pm at the Jardinets de Gràcia, and is moving down Passeig de Gràcia to Plaça Catalunya, near la Rambla. The march features a design by artist Frederic Amat, with the letters of the name ‘Barcelona’ in red, and the letter ‘l’ in black, to represent mourning. The event will finish with a “short, austere” ceremony at which Pau Casals’ ‘The Song of the Birds’ will be played by cellos. Thousands of flowers are being distributed to the public.
