Jordi Cuixart leaves prison to work at his company

Jordi Cuixart, one of the independence leaders jailed for his role in the 2017 push for a Catalan Republic, has left prison this morning to go to work.

Last week it was announced that the Òmnium Cultural president was granted permission to leave Lledoners prison five days a week for nine and a half hours a day to do paid and voluntary work.

Also granted permission to do the same was the other activist jailed for sedition, Jordi Sànchez, who can leave for three days a week to do voluntary work. On Wednesday, it was also announced former parliament speaker Carme Forcadell was permitted leave to do voluntary work and take care of a family member. 

Cuixart walked out of prison this morning after article 100.2 of the Spanish constitution was invoked. 

According to the terms of the prison regime under which they are serving nine years for sedition, the two men are allowed to apply for temporary release in order to work now that they have served a quarter of their sentences.

All leaders will have to return to their penitentiary centers to sleep each night.
