Defense challenges prosecutor's allegation of violence during independence bid
Jordi Cuixart's lawyer says charges "lack veracity," while Catalan political figures question trial's purpose
The version of events put forward by the prosecution in the trial of Catalan independence leaders in the Supreme Court "lacks veracity," according to the defense lawyer of civic leader Jordi Cuixart, one of the defendants facing a possible hefty prison sentence for rebellion.
On the second day of the trial, it was the prosecution's turn to justify the charges against the leaders, but lawyer Marina Roig said the prosecutor's allegation that the independence bid was violent "does not reflect the reality of what happened in Catalonia during those days."
