Week 10 of the trial of Catalan leaders in Spain's Supreme Court began on Monday with testimony from a senior Guardia Civil officer involved in drawing up the police reports from the investigation into the preparations for the independence referendum in 2017.

The deputy of Daniel Baena, the lieutenant colonel overseeing the reports who testified two weeks ago, talked about his role in drawing up the reports that help provide the foundation for the case against the leaders, and that of 30 others in a Barcelona court.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the court also hears witness testimony from some 60 Spanish National Police riot officers who provided support on October 1, 2017, to the judicial police charged with shutting down polling stations and seizing voting material.

This is the last week of the trial before the Easter break, and court sources are now forecasting that the case will go on longer than expected, possibly until mid-June, with sentencing now expected to take place after the summer.
