Booster shots bookings available for 18-29 year olds whose second dose was 8 months ago or more
Appointments have been open for all people over 30 since January 14
Covid-19 booster shots are now available for people aged between 18 and 29 as long as they received their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna at least eight months ago.
Those in this age group who got a Janssen shot or two AstraZeneca doses in 2021 have been eligible to get the booster shot for months.
Indeed, there are now only around 16,000 newly eligible people given the timings, as at the time they were health professionals, carers or workers in jobs labelled as essential or similar.
"Very shortly we will open appointments to the rest of people aged between 18 and 29," public health secretary-general Carmen Cabezas said when announcing the newly available appointments in the weekly Covid-19 press conference on Wednesday.
Extra vaccines were approved in Spain for all adults over the age of 18 on January 13, and Catalonia opened appointments for those in their 30s and above the following day. The only conditions, in this case, is having had Covid-19 one month before or more, and having received the second dose at least five months before.

As of January 18, 2022, Catalonia has administered 2,704,249 third doses (34.5%). Official data show that 37.9% of residents have received a booster shot (which includes those who had a third jab plus people who only got one jab in the initial vaccination series and then received a booster, their second shot).
This figure increases to above 80% for people aged 70 and over, while over 70% of those in their 60s got the booster shot, and just above half of those in their 50s received it.
As of January 18, 2022, 6,425,808 residents have been given the first dose of the vaccine, 81.2% of the total population. Out of those, 5,592,426 have also been administered a second dose (70.7% of the total population). 6,149,722 residents are considered to be fully immunized (77.3%).
How to get vaccinated in Catalonia
Anyone who is registered in a municipal 'padró' census in Catalonia is entitled to at least basic CatSalut public health coverage, which includes Covid care and vaccinations.
You can apply for a health card here. Once you have received a CIP number, you can request access to La Meva Salut, the website and app from which medical records – including vaccination certificates – can be downloaded and health queries can be made. You will also be able to book vaccination appointments online.
Vaccinations are only administered through the public health system.
