Zeeman delivers Catalan language brochures to The Hague announcing new store opening near Barcelona
'Benvinguts al nou Zeeman de Premià de Mar' reads text left to Dutch residents
Waking up to pick up your mail in The Hague and learning about a 25% discount at the newest Zeeman store is quite normal with advertising brochures. The problem is that the new store opening is located a mere 1,500 kilometers away, on Catalonia's shoreline.
The Dutch chain will open its new store in Premià de Mar, north of Barcelona, on April 24.
While the plan was to announce it to nearby residents, a "paper swap" between the two countries made the leaflets appear on the doors of residents in Leyweg, in the Dutch city of The Hague, as opposed to Premià de Mar, as first reported by the Dutch public broadcasting system Omroep West, and confirmed by Catalan News.
The text, written fully in Catalan, reads 'Benvinguts al nou Zeeman de Premià de Mar' (Welcome to Premià de Mar's new Zeeman) and offers a 25% "descompte d'obertura" (opening discount).
After receiving the brochure in their mailbox, a social media user shared a picture, saying he "would prefer a Dutch brochure."
A spokesperson said to Catalan News there had been a mistake, as the "two leaflets had been exchanged between Spain and the Netherlands." "It was a mistake of the printing company, as they accidentally mixed the leaflets of Premià de Mar with ones from a new opening in the Netherlands," these sources said.
"Luckily, it was a small quantity," they said before adding that residents in The Netherlands will receive the correct brochure during the week.
Meanwhile, residents in Premià de Mar were left empty-handed, as the Dutch leaflet was not delivered to the Catalan municipality.
