Vilassar de Mar Town Hall, third in the “Twitter Oscars”

The Catalan coastal town was nominated in the “Government” category of Twitter’s “Shorty Awards”. The Mayor of Newmark, Coory Booker won in this category. Vilassar de Mar was third, just behind Barack Obama’s Twitter.

Vilassar de Mar (ACN). - The “Oscars of Twitter” were handed out last night in New York. The jury for the ‘Shorty Awards’ decided to name the Mayor of Newmark (New Jersey) Coory Booker as the best user of Twitter in the “Government” category. Users had been voting in the last number of weeks and the Town Hall of Vilassar de Mar was awarded a place on the podium, after having been nominated a month ago. The most popular Twitter in the “Government” category was that of John Moore, a US political consultant. Second position was given to the Twitter of US President Barack Obama. And in third position, was Vilassar de Mar’s, a Catalan coastal town, 25 km north of Barcelona. In fact, the winner of the category, Coory Booker, was voted fourth by the public; however the jury decided to award him the prize.


Vilassar de Mar’s Town Hall had a symbolic victory as it has become the first European finalist in these awards. Its nomination received 354 votes, just behind Barack Obama, who finished second. The Catalan town’s communications councilman Laureà Folch attended the ceremony, which took place in New York on the evening of March 28th.
