Tulip field attracts thousands of visitors to northern Catalonia
Blooming flowers make a colorful oasis in Saldes
In the northern town of Saldes, in the Berguedà region, is a field blooming with 350 different types of tulips.
The town has around 300 inhabitants but is currently hosting 200 visitors on weekdays, and 400 on weekends, even though it is the off-season for tourism.
"There are restaurants which usually don't open during the week but now they do because they know they can serve the people who are coming to see the flowers," Saldes' mayor, Dolors Jiménez, told the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
During spring, the field is full of tulips but during the fall, the dahlia flowers turn the field into a colorful oasis.
"I recommend visitors to come in the fall because people don’t expect what there is to see of the dahlia," said Seila Malo, the founder of Tulipmania.
Visitors can decide on whether they want a guided tour or free visit, but there is also the possibility to do a photoshoot, planting workshops or even drink tea.
The field will be open for visitors until the tulips stop blooming in late April.
