Tour guides offer trips in Catalan from New York to New Zealand
Global Association of Catalan Guides is active in 25 destinations across five continents
The Global Association of Catalan Guides gives Catalans the opportunity to travel around the world with a tour guide in their own language.
The association founded in 2012 looks to provide assistance to Catalan speakers in cities like New York and Marrakesh, and countries including New Zealand, Sweden and the Netherlands.
According to Vanessa Barberà, president of the association, it gives a voice to Catalan tour guides spread around the world.
"Normally, a Catalan person does not look for a Catalan guide when traveling, because they don't think that's an option," Barberà said. "If you try to find this guidance in a traditional way, you won't find it."
The company offers trips with a guide to 25 countries on five different continents.
The association of guides picks its members carefully, according to Barberà, who is from Manresa, Central Catalonia, and is one of the original founders of the association.
"It can't be a person that has been living in Barcelona for two days. We want the quality to be high because this benefits all of us guides. If someone is happy with a visit, they will look for another guide from the association and, therefore, this benefits us all."
