Barcelona's lively food and drinks scene is expanding with the arrival of Time Out Market Barcelona, which will open its doors to the public on Friday, 5 July at 12 noon.

The new foodie hub in the city's Port Vell area, on the top floor of the Maremagnum, will open from 10am to 12 midnight seven days a week and will be home to "14 kitchens, a full-service restaurant, four bars, an events space, a studio, and an outdoor lounge with amazing views," according to Time Out.

One of the star attractions will be the Paradiso stand, named the 2022 Best Bar in the World.

The venue aims to "bring together the best of the city under one roof: the best chefs, restaurateurs, bars and cultural experiences."

Time Out Market Barcelona – the first to open in Spain – will be "a uniquely designed space where the public can enjoy culinary and cultural experiences in an informal and relaxed atmosphere that will bring together the best of Barcelona's gastronomy, cocktails and culture."

"The project is a step forward, with over 5,000 square meters, where locals will find the city's best culinary options, but alsomcultural activities," Eduard Voltas, Time Out Portugal and Spain strategy director manager, said during a press conference ahead of the opening.

An investment of €13 million made Time Out Market Barcelona with a capacity of 1,300 people possible, and Voltas said they hope to "welcome locals to rediscover the Port Vell area."

"There will also be local artists, all posters are written in Catalan language, and everything is very well connected with Barcelona and Catalan society," Sílvia Nuri, general manager of Time Out Market Barcelona, told Catalan News.

Restaurants have been invited to take part in the market after an editorial decision by the Time Out magazine team. " This is why we have all this selection of restaurants and names that are very well known in Barcelona," Nuri said on selecting the restaurants. The magazine has been recommending places to visit and activities to do in the city for 16 years.

The event's opening, on July 5, will take place six weeks before the America's Cup sailing championship starts, something which is "a happy coincidence" as the "market will be forever, it will only close during Christmas Day," Voltas said.
