Miró-Picasso exhibition and El Molino concert hall among Time Out Barcelona Culture awards
Filmmaker Dani de la Orden, theater director Victoria Szpunberg, and BOCA festival also accoladed
The joint exhibition Miró-Picasso and the newly reopened El Molino concert hall are among the Time Out Barcelona Culture awards winners.
The prizes recognize "the best cultural proposals in the Catalan capital," including theater, dance, literature, cinema, art, music, and events that "made a difference" to the city during the last year, as organizers announced during the award ceremony on Monday night.
Miró-Picasso was an exposition curated by both the Picasso Museum and the Joan Miró Foundation, praising the work of surrealist artists and their relationship. The show focused on the friendship united by art and has now been recognized with the Best Exposition Award.
The Catalan National Art Museum exhibition on French painter Suzanne Valadon, the first time the artist was exhibited in Spain, was also shortlisted in the category. Both competed against the 'Núria Feliu al Palau (Robert)' expo, a "great homage to the Catalan singer and actress."
Among those who received a trophy was Dani de la Orden, the director of the cinema hit 'Casa en Flames,' for his work in uniting famous Catalan actors such as Emma Vilarasau, Clara Segura, and Enric Auquer for his movie. It has been the most-watched Catalan film of the decade in Catalonia.
The script functions "as a perfect gear and makes the spectator laugh." De la Orden won the Best Work prize against singer Guillem Gisbert's first solo album: 'Balla la masurca!' and Maria Sevilla Paris' 'La nit ovípara' poemary.
Around 500 attendees at the Time Out Market event celebrated Victoria Szpunberg's victory, recognized as the Best Creator for her career as a theater director. She faced writer Eva Baltasar, who had been shortlisted at the International Booker Prize, and choreographer and dancer Núria Guiu.
The Most Innovative Project landed on the BOCA festival as it is a festival organized by people aged between 14 and 19 years old for people of the same age. The music festival defends diversity, equality, and access to culture.
Another awarded festival has been the Oyofe Festival for its take on the different African dance styles. Oyofe competed against the biennial of contemporary art, Manifesta 15 Barcelona, and Ràdio Pati, an intimate music festival on the patio of Anna Bacardit, a breast cancer patient who organized dozens of gigs during summer. Donations were focused on research.
'De l'Amistat' from Las Huecas took the Best Show award, and the Best Social Cultural Initiative prize was for enCantados, a group of people offering concerts from Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Aitana, or The Tyets in sign language.
With this initiative, deaf people could enjoy the concerts of many artists during the last year in Catalonia and across Spain.
