Barcelona (CNA).- The Barcelona 080 Fashion Fair opened its doors today and will go on until Thursday at Montjuic, presenting pieces from 55 different exhibitors, 10 % more than last year’s edition. During the next three days, 18 designers – 9 of which are Catalan- will show their designs on the runway. Professionals from the independent and avant-garde fashion world will arrive to the 6th edition of the fair to showcase their work, explained Josep Huguet, the Catalan Minister for Innovation, Universities, and Business. The show, explained Huguet, will allow emerging designers to open the doors to have their own business and project their brand to an international market.

During these three days, hundreds of buyers have been invited to the fair, “the majority internationals”, said the Minister. Thousands of invitations have been sent to commercial businesses throughout the Catalan territory. The idea is to “promote commercialisation”, said Huguet.

The 6th edition of the Barcelona 080 Fashion Fair, with over 400 accredited journalists in attendance, will repeat its ‘080 Prize’ this year, a prize that recognises the best men’s and women’s collections. In addition to the show, parallel activities and round table discussions have also been organised.

Minister Huguet assured that from the 1st edition of the show until its current 6th edition, the number of exhibitors has risen by 140%. “We believe that the correct model for fashion is the independent”, for it is a market niche where in Barcelona there exists an excellent platform. For this reason, the Barcelona 080 Fashion Fair “has continued to receive more participation, more commercial activity, and an increasing hand in the private sector”.
