Red Cross distributes toys to over 3,400 vulnerable children in Girona
Packs include school supplies and games to promote family time
Football balls, board games, toys, and books—Girona's Red Cross has prepared hundreds of bags for volunteers to distribute to vulnerable children.
This year, over 3,400 children will receive one of these packs, which are not associated with any religious beliefs. "Our aim is to gift one of these bags to every child in need," said Mar Marcè, Youth Red Cross coordinator, in an interview with the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
The Red Cross initiated this campaign over 30 years ago. Today, the goal remains the same: to ensure that all children in vulnerable situations receive a new toy, regardless of whether it is a gift from the Three Kings, Santa Claus, a birthday present, or simply a gesture of kindness throughout the year.
Volunteers in Girona have been preparing the 410 packs to be handed to vulnerable children these last few days. All toys are brand new, donated by businesses and individuals, and have been carefully selected to be gender-neutral, non-violent, and to promote family time.
The Red Cross organizes donations by age group, catering to children aged 0 to 12. "For younger children, the packs may include construction toys or puzzles, while older children receive board games or balls," explained Marcè.
Each pack also contains school supplies, such as notebooks, a calendar, and a group game designed to involve the entire family. "We want these gifts to create moments where all family members can join in and play together," she added.
