New cultural and gastronomic route in the Catalan county of Garraf
The county of Garraf, 20 minutes South from Barcelona, has recently begun a new programme for tourists of the area, a route that combines elements of landscape, culture, and gastronomy. The itinerary includes panoramic views of the Garraf Natural Park and wine tasting, among other activities.
Barcelona (Gastroteca.cat).- The county of Garraf, where the famous coastal town of Sitges is located, is now offering a route that combines landscapes, culture and rich gastronomy for potential tourists of the area. Among other things, the route includes Malvasia wine tasting. The initiative will continue until the end of August and includes a visit to an ecological wine cellar in addition to the nature trails.
This summer, the Barcelona Province Council and the Garraf Tourism Consortium have undergone a proposal which combines natural, cultural, and wine tourism of the region into one package. The programme, under the name ‘Els sentits del Garraf’ (Senses of Garraf), consists of a route through the Natural Park of Garraf and a visit to the wine cellar Vega de Ribes, where tourists can enjoy a taste of their ecological wines. The objective of the route is to give the region value for visitors. “We want to eliminate the preconceived idea of tourism in the area that is very involved in the sun and the beach. We have a very rich landscape, culture and gastronomy that is worth getting to know”, said Loreto Leguina of the Garraf Tourism Consortium. Loreto added, “This year we have united into one idea the two most successful activities from last year”.
The route starts off at the tourism office of Vilanova, Geltrú and Sitges and begins with a panoramic view from the park’s observation point. It goes on to the Information Centre of La Pleta, the cave of Pla de Querol and finishes at the Vega de Ribes wine cellar where one can have a taste of the sweet Malvasia wine and other artisanal products offered to visitors.
