More than 200 horses in the Pyrenees descend the mountain for winter
The 82km route is divided in six stages
More than 200 horses began their transhumance from the Pallars Sobirà county to Pallars Jussà county in the Pyrenees, in northwestern Catalonia, where these horses will spend all winter.
The journey started on the first weekend of November by collecting the livestock in Port de Cabús, a mountain pass in the Pyrenees, with an elevation of 2,302 meters.
The 82 km of the route from Port de Cabús to Pessonada will be completed in six stages.
On their November journey, the horses descend from the mountains to spend the winter months away from the snow and closer to pastures.
At the end of spring, these horses will walk their way back and return to the mountains where there will be fresh green grass.
Residents that saw the animals passing by during the weekend were surprised by the occurrence, as more shepherds do the transhumance with trucks.
