Mango and young designers showcase their new collections at 080 Barcelona Fashion Week 2015
The 080 Barcelona Fashion Week of 2015 is being held in the Catalan capital, showcasing the winter collections of new talent. Its first day ended with the blossoming summer creations by the Catalan multinational retail Mango. This year, all the vibrant catwalks are developed within Barcelona’s Maritime Museum, located within a striking Gothic building that was the former Royal Shipyard during the Middle-Ages (known as the Drassanes Reials). This week, more than thirty brands and designers, from Catalonia, Spain and throughout the world, exhibit their Fall/Winter 2015 collections until the 5th of February.

Contemporary collections clash with antique Maritime Museum
The Catalan Ministry of Business and Labour, through the Consortium of Trade and Fashion of Catalonia has chosen the Maritime Museum as an international platform for the 15th edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week. According to the Ministry, it is an exclusive Gothic setting which echoes previous catwalks of the Palau de Pedralbes (July 2012) and the Born Cultural Centre (January 2014).
New designers make their debuts
As with previous editions, the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week invites both new talent and famous brands. The first day was marked by vibrant collections by young designers. Both Edgar Carrascal and Pablo Erroz employ materials in different ranges and textures, including classic ginza cotton, suede and fur. They redefine male fashion by adding innovative elements, ranging from blue roses to leather scooters. The other two new brands, Brain & Beast and Celia Vela demonstrate two contrasting collections of wild versus mild. The catwalk of Brain & Beast begins and ends with an audiovisual presentation showing models engulfed in fire with the motto, “Don’t let fear stop your dream.” Models wear quirky colourful shirts with make-up of monsters and animals, which provoke ferocious feelings. On the other side, Celia Vela demonstrates a feminine collection with a butterfly element.
Mango, highlight of the first day
International fashion brand Mango showcases its Spring/Summer 2015 collection at the Fashion Week. Mango opened its first store in 1984 on the central Passeig de Gracia Boulevard in Barcelona. Now, they are the second-largest exporting fashion house in Spain selling high-quality products at a reasonable price. This year, Mango differentiates itself from other brands by exhibiting the Spring/Summer 2015 Collection with elegant, stylish and hippy elements. Models are wearing dresses, ponchos and kimonos with lace, embroidery and chiffon on the long catwalk under the gothic dome-shaped ceiling. The collection illustrates femininity in bohemian style with soft beige colours. The fresh boho-chic retro catwalk receives a standing ovation from the audience.
Custo, tonight’s star
Custo Barcelona was established at the start of the 1980s by the Dalmau brothers, Custo and David. Now, Custo Barcelona is a consolidated brand since its collection was showcased at the New York Fashion Week in 1997. Most of its designs are recognised by the public, media and celebrities. For instance, Bridget Fonda wore hot heels designed by Custo Barcelona in the film “Jackie Brown”. Tonight, Custo is introducing their Fall Winter 15/16 collection and expectations are running high.
